What is the right age to start Botox and/or Fillers?

Determining the right age to start treatments is one of the most popular questions I get asked by younger patients visiting the clinic.

Neuromodulators such as Botox are injectable medications that function by temporarily

decreasing the strength with which muscles contract so you are not able to create deep

lines/wrinkles. Soft tissue fillers and injectable medical treatments that function to soften lines, volumize skin and support structures of the face.

These products all serve to improve the natural effects of the aging process. The affects of aging vary so significantly from person to person. Many factors inlcuding your genetics, diet, environment, stress, health conditions and sun exposure will affect how you will

age. And that is why there is no one size fits all approach to these injectable treatments.

Neuromodulators have a preventative and and corrective effect on lines and wrinkles which is why this treatment is most often started first. The earlier these treatments are started, the more effective they are for prevention of deeper lines forming. However if you choose to start in later life, they are still very effective at reducing established lines and preventing them from getting worse.

As part of normal aging we experience volume loss and a loss of bone density of the skull and elasticiy of the skin causes downward movement of the soft tissue structures. Fillers can be extremely effective at addressing these changes.

Overall the advice I give people is the following; if you look in the mirror and you see something and think, “I don’t want that to get much worse” you are ready for a consultation to find out what your options are.

With the ever evolving world of medical aesthetics there are often multiple options to correct or prevent an issue. Knowledge is power! Don’t hesitate to meet with a medical pracitioner to discuss your needs.
