Should I Avoid The Sun After Botox?

Everyone loves the idea of looking refreshed and less tired, especially in the summer. Combine that with a busy social calendar and BANG... the treatment you are looking for is Botox!

Botox is a quick effective treatment that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and helps refresh your face. One of the many things you may have come across during your internet/TikTok research is aftercare. But... how does the sun affect Botox? Is that even a thing you need to be worried about?

In short, it is fine to be in the sun after you receive Botox injections. All of the brands (Botox, Dysport and Xeomin) are completely absorbed at the neuromuscular junction within 24 hours. What that means for you is Botox goes to work quickly so sun exposure won't affect your outcomes.

What will affect your outcome however is exposure to heat and exercise. When you get hot or you exercise you increase your metabolic rate. This will cause Botox to be broken down quicker.

So although the sun itself does not affect your Botox, being outside, getting hot and being more active during the summer can affect the longevity of your Botox.

So to summarise... go and enjoy your Botox and the sun. Wear sunscreen and be active. Before you know it, it'll be snowing again!
