Don’t OVARY-ACT! The Man’s Guide to Women’s Hormones!
If you have been married for may years you may have seen some subtle and not so subtle changes to woman that you married.
You may have noticed a change in her mood, energy or libido. Maybe she has gained a little extra weight.
Balancing the challenges of day to day life, busy work schedules and taking care of children, can certainly be the cause of any of this. But the root cause of the problem could be an imbalance of her hormones.
Progesterone, testosterone and the human estrogen hormones (estradiol, estriol and estrone) are the sex hormones that dramatically affect our well being. All of these hormones (yes I mean testosterone as well!) are produced by women, mainly in the ovaries, with small amounts produced by the adrenal glands.
Signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalance in women:
· Fatigue
· Night sweats
· Mood swings
· Decreased libido
· Decreased energy
· “Brain fog”
· Weight gain
· Insomnia
· Hot flashes
· Vaginal dryness
· Osteoporosis
· Fibrocystic breast disease
In women, these symptoms can be caused by a decline OR imbalance of hormones. If your partner is still menstruating you may hear her complain of heavy periods, irregular bleeding and PMS symptoms.
But do not worry, your wife’s depleted hormone levels can be addressed in many ways; including bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).
If you have concerns about your wife and you feel she may have a hormone related issue please (gently!) encourage her to book a complimentary consultation with one of our physicians. We would love to help!
