Cold Weather Skin Care Tips

Winter is coming, it’s time to get your skin ready!!!!

The bitter cold days of winter bring extreme dryness to the skin of the face, hands, and feet. For some people, it means more than just tight, dry skin. Their skin can become so dry it results in flaking, cracking, and eczema.

Here are some tips to winterize your skin care routine, and keep your skin glowing and hydrated all winter long.

  1. Hydrate!

Colder, drier weather making your skin more susceptible to moisture loss. To combat this moisture loss, you need to swap out your moisturizer.

A thicker moisturizing cream especially when paired with a hyaluronic acid serum (for those of us that get really dry!) are better for cold, dry weather because they provide a stronger barrier to lock in moisture.

2. Antioxidants!

Antioxidants are great to use at any time of year but especially the winter when you don’t have as much sun exposure.

Antioxidants are our skins defence against damaging free radicals as they work to neutralize the damaging effect of these pesky free radicals.

Ingredients to look for are vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin B3 (niacinamide).

3. Sunscreen!!!!

Unless it’s nighttime you are still getting UV exposure from the sun and you need to wear sunscreen daily on all sun exposed areas.

It’s the most important step of a skincare routine. Don’t get into bad habits and slack in the winter!

Hope that helps! Enjoy the freezing cold weather coming our way.

This is the time of year when I regularly question why I moved to this frozen tundra called Canada!!
